VDL Robot Sports is a restart of the Philips RoboCup Team, which participated in the RoboCup Middle Size League competition from 2002 till 2006, when it achieved a 3rd place during the world championships 2005. Like its parent Philips RoboCup Team, it is an industrial team, meaning that its participants are all employed by Dutch high-tech companies, primarily in the Eindhoven region. The difference with the Philips RoboCup Team is that we are now a non-profit organization.

The team will participate with the intention to investigate what must be added to our current engineering practices for high-tech systems to be able to develop teams of autonomous robotic systems.

Besides the engineering that we do within the foundation, we also want to make kids enthusiastic about engineering, by means of giving demonstrations or exercises on fairs and exhibitions.

VDL Robot Sports is part of the Dutch Cybervalley Foundation.
